September 2020

Here we are at the first of September already; the month that we usually consider the first month of autumn. The nights here in New Brunswick get cool this time of year. Last night I covered the plants in the garden that are especially susceptible to frost although the days are warm and there is still a little of the summer growing season left.

The seasonal cold that we have here in this area happens just by the nature of our location on the planet. We can’t avoid the coming of winter cold. It’s a natural occurrence that happens every year. So we expect it and prepare for it. However, the spiritual cold that the Lord Jesus Christ predicted that could be avoided in our spirit is often ignored. He said the reason that cold comes is iniquity and lack of love for Him. Matthewt 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. As God Word says, the cause of spiritual coldness is iniquity and is something that could and should be avoided.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit,

and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh

Galatians 5:16

Remember as we learned in our Bible study of First John, walking in the spirit is also the way to stay in fellowship with God the Father and Jesus, the Sun of Righteousness.

But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise

with healing in his wings; … Malachi 4:2

This time of year, it is much warmer when you stay in the sunlight.

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness,

we lie, and do not the truth:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,

we have fellowship one with another,

and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1John 1:5-7
